Based in
the heart of the Alpes-Maritimes, near Grasse, we have organised
two training
courses about active European citizenship.One
training
course
is aimed
at young
people
and
is composed
of 10 classroom based sessions, giving a total of 20 hours. The
second course is aimed at adults involved in the education system,
giving a total of 27 hours. To complement the formal classes, we have
included a cultural module based on the them of european citizenship,
visiting Cannes, Grasse and Nice. There is an optional French as a
foreign language module.
The school is run by an experienced team of trainers who have
worked on European projects, in particular in education about active
european
citizenship, since the formation of their association Idées Nouvelles
Europe in 1996. Following the succes and the popularity of last years
course, we decided to go ahead.
The objective
of the school is to promote learning
about European citizenship and to increase cultural awareness through
a European Civilisation program in the area around the Riviera-Nice-Côte
d’Azur. The school also aims to make students
feel they belong to a European community with a positive future through
learning about the rich local history.
The training
will of course give you a chance to gain
a working knowledge about Europe and up to date information about
it's various enlargements, how Europe works today, how it’s
institutions work, foreign relationships, etc, etc... The real key aspect
is to exchange
new ideas about interactive teaching methods, educate about Europe
with a special focus on European citizenship. In particular,
we will try to define exactly what is citizenship, where and when
European citizenship starts for every one of
us, does European citizenship conflict with the national one’s?
What are the fundamentals of European citizenship, what are
common European values ? What exactly does a democratic system
mean, what is the charter of fundamentals rights of the European
Union ? What
is the role
of the European politician, what is the relationship between our
national and our European citizenship ? finally we can see that
European citizenship is
something absolutely concrete twining knowledge, practices and
skills.
